FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 23, 2017
Annapolis – Following the House Economic Matters Committee’s favorable vote on the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act (HB1), effectively sending the bill to the House floor, the Working Matters Coalition for Earned Sick Days released the following statement:
Today’s committee vote marks an important step in the fight to protect over 750,000 Maryland families, who too often face impossible choices between their health and their economic security. We thank the bill sponsors Delegate Luke Clippinger, Chairman Dereck Davis and the House Economic Matters Committee for showing true leadership in passing a strong, meaningful bill that will make a real difference for hundreds of thousands of working Marylanders. Our coalition will continue fighting to pass the Healthy Working Families Act (HB1) on the House floor, and we hope the Senate Finance Committee will follow the House Economic Matters Committee’s lead in passing a strong, meaningful paid sick days bill (SB230).
